Three steps. Under a minute.

1

Enter your number

The daily sodium limit your clinician gave you, in milligrams. Don't know it? Four questions pick a common one.

2

Open it at the counter

SaltScout lists the supported chains near you. Tap the one you are in, or search by name.

3

See what fits

Five picks, ranked by how much of today's budget they use. Tap "I'm getting this" if you want it counted. Or don't.

Not a tracker.

Nutrition trackers ask you to log everything and then tell you at bedtime that you went over. SaltScout does one thing, before you order.

Ten chains to start.

Every number comes from the nutrition information the chain itself publishes, and a person has checked every chain against that source before it appears in the app.

The handout for "watch your salt."

You say it thirty times a week. Patients nod. Then they are at a drive-through with no idea what it means. SaltScout is something concrete to hand them.

Questions

Is this medical advice?

No. SaltScout ranks menu items against a number you enter, using nutrition data the chains publish. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition, and it does not decide what sodium limit is right for you. Talk to your clinician about your target.

Where do the numbers come from?

From each chain's own published nutrition information. Every chain in the app was checked against that source by a person before it was turned on. Chains change recipes and portions without notice, so when it matters, check the chain's own nutrition page too.

Do I have to log my food?

No. If you tap "I'm getting this," today's remaining budget goes down and resets at midnight. If you never tap it, SaltScout still works every time you open it.

What do you collect?

Your sodium target, the quiz answers if you choose to save them, and the items you tap. No name, email, or medical records. Location is used only to list chains near you and is never stored. Details in the privacy policy.

What does it cost?

Nothing. There is no subscription and no ads.

Android?

iPhone first. Android is next once the iPhone version has proven itself.

Not medical advice

SaltScout is an informational tool. It ranks restaurant menu items using nutrition data the chains publish, against a daily sodium number you enter. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition, and it does not decide what sodium limit is right for you. Talk to your clinician about your target and about any changes to your diet. Menu data can be out of date or wrong.
